Sarah has just returned from her flying visit to the National Children and Adults Conference hosted by the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS).

This year’s programme was attended by The Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Education, The Rt Hon Andy Burnham MP, Shadow Education Secretary and other government figures.  The conference included a mix of keynote/ministerial addresses and other significant plenary sessions by key players in adult and childrens services. There was also the opportunity to take part in a variety of participatory breakouts and networking sessions.

Sarah took part in a number of plenaries and workshop sessions including CWDC’s social work programme: and national programme supporting local strategies – Children’s Workforce Development Council; Safeguarding Adults – Next Steps – ADASS, LG Group, DH, SCIE; Professor Eileen Munro’s review of child protection.

Sarah said:

“It was fantastic to connect with so many people who share the same commitment towards safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.

‘I spoke to so many people who were enthusiastic about working together and partnership working.  It was a fantastic opportunity to listen to what people had to say about the Munro Review and to be able to share my knowledge and expertise about working creatively in safeguarding children and young people.

‘It was refreshing and uplifting to be involved with professionals who have such a high level of dedication towards raising standards in safeguarding vulnerable adults.”

Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Education said:

“From reforming child protection to protecting child and adolescent mental health services, from safeguarding the provision of play facilities to enhancing youth services, from supporting Sure Start to improving careers advice for school leavers, your responsibilities are also my priorities.

‘And the same principles, and vision, which drive our approach to schools guide us in all these areas.
