The Athena Programme has facilitated a manager’s conference for national child care provider Northerncare. The conference took place at Tiger Tiger in Manchester on 10th December 2010 and its aim was to involve senior executives and managers in further developing excellence in the service and set positive goals for the future.
Northerncare is one of the largest private providers of residential childcare and registered education in the UK. They work in partnership with local authorities, young people and key stakeholders. Northerncare operates 39 homes nationwide and has over 800 care and education staff.
With homes spread across England, ranging from East Sussex to North Yorkshire, and Somerset to Norfolk, Northerncare continues to expand steadily. Looking after children and young people aged 15-18 years old they have experienced staff teams are equipped with the skills to meet the needs of the children who are resident. The children placed with Northern Care may be suffering from crisis or trauma, have mild to moderate learning difficulties or emotional, social and/or behavioural difficulties, display challenging behaviours and/or have experienced multiple placement breakdowns.
A company that prides itself on achieving positive outcomes for the children placed in their care, Northerncare’s philosophy is based upon the belief that looked after children deserve a fresh start where they can move forward to build positive futures and have the same life opportunities as their peers in the community.
Called “The Next Steps”, the conference had a motivational theme, including a presentation to celebrate the work of the departing Chief Executive Officer and welcome the new one. As part of the conference we hosted a series of creative workshops to explore excellence in service delivery.
“The Next Steps” facilitated a smooth transition from the existing Chief Executive Officer to the new and consolidated the commitment of delegates to take the organisation forward in a positive way.
