Why is it needed?
Whether you are a small or large organisation, the skills required for delivering safeguarding training are different from other subjects.
Trainers who deliver Safeguarding training can be faced with ‘real-time’ disclosures from very vulnerable delegates, so they need to be ready to respond and support calmly and correctly during the delivery of any safeguarding session.
Who is it for?
Our Individual ‘train the trainer’ for safeguarding is a 2-day course for individuals who have a responsibility to deliver safeguarding training within their organisation or charity.
Whether you are new to delivering training, safeguarding or are an experienced educator or trainer, then this course is for you.
It could be that you are a Designated Safeguarding Lead who has been tasked with delivering safeguarding training – then Athena can help you build your confidence to deliver safeguarding training.
You will join safeguarding trainers from other organisations in the session, sharing good practice and learning as you reflect on your skills and knowledge.
What qualifications do I need?
- You should be at least 19 years old and have good literacy and numeracy skills.
- You should have existing knowledge and competence to a high level in safeguarding.
- We advise that this includes safeguarding training at Level 1, Level 2 and Designated Safeguarding Lead ( Level 3) level of training
What does the course offer?
Our ‘train the trainer’ course allows you time to examine, reflect and develop skills in the emotional content of being specialist safeguarding trainer within your organisation.
This course will offer you the opportunity to understand the learning styles of your delegates in order that you can support engagement of learners to maximise their learning. It also gives you an excellent grounding in using creative and interactive methods.
It will enhance or refresh your existing training skills as well as develop your ability to respond and support distressed learners in a confidential manner during a training session. You will learn how to manage difficult learners who are impacting the session in a calm and professional way.
The course will provide you with the confidence, knowledge and skills to respond calmly and correctly to vulnerable learners, thereby preventing harm and promoting their welfare.
Finally, you will have the opportunity to practice facilitating an exercise based on safeguarding concerns relevant to your organisation.
What Will I Learn on The Train The Trainer Training
Day 1
- Have the knowledge to respond to the subject matter and respond to safeguarding questions or issues raised
- Being a competent trainer with an understanding of the learning cycle, group processes, participant’s needs and techniques for preparation.
- Identify issues and benefits of co-delivering training
- Effective learning and managing group dynamics
- Understand the need to use blended learning methods including virtual platforms, face-to-face and reflective learning
- Use of creative methods to facilitate safe and inclusive group work, including awareness of emotional component of safeguarding training.
- Homework – Create a Case Study relevant to a specific cohort of learners within your organisation with trainers notes
Day 2
- Present your material in an effective way ensure the subject matter and training materials are used effectively for a safe group process.
- Facilitate safe and inclusive group work, including awareness of emotional component of safeguarding training.
- Develop presentation skills and demonstrate creative delivery methods
- Using creativity to involve participants and facilitate group work.
- Have the knowledge and ability to signpost to relevant local support websites, documents and legislation.
- Reflect on your skills as trainers specially focused upon safeguarding and make adjustments to their delivery technique to meet the learning styles of their audience.
- Develop an ongoing action plan for your own future development as a safeguarding facilitators.
- Create a personal check list - what you need to do before your first training session.
What qualification do I get?
Our Train the Trainer course provides you with a Certificate Equivalent to Level 3 CET
