Who Should Attend NHS Safeguarding Level 5 Training?


Our NHS Safeguarding Level 5 Training course is designed for Clinical Directors, senior leaders, managers and safeguarding professionals who hold strategic responsibility for safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk.

This advanced course is intended for professionals who already have significant safeguarding knowledge and experience. Before attending, delegates should have a strong understanding of safeguarding practice, relevant legislation and governance frameworks, as well as experience in responding to safeguarding concerns within their organisation.

Participants should be familiar with key legislation and guidance, including the Children Act 1989 and 2004, the Care Act 2014, Working Together to Safeguard Children, Care and Support Statutory Guidance, and the Mental Capacity Act 2005. A good understanding of abuse, neglect, exploitation and professional safeguarding responsibilities is also essential.

Develop Strategic Safeguarding Leadership


NHS Safeguarding Level 5 Training focuses on safeguarding leadership, governance and organisational oversight. Delegates will strengthen their ability to lead safeguarding arrangements, influence organisational culture and support effective safeguarding practice across services.

While recognising the differences in safeguarding arrangements across the UK nations, the course helps participants develop the confidence, competence and strategic perspective required to promote a culture of safety and accountability.

Previous experience of managing safeguarding concerns, assessing risk and making decisions in complex situations will be particularly beneficial, as this training is aimed at those with leadership and strategic responsibilities.

  • Staff allegations - Increased awareness around Identifying, managing and defending risk and how this can help when overseeing, supervising and assessing the competency of staff including the importance of reflective supervision
  • The importance of effective Supervision, management and oversight
  • Quality Assurance process – linked with monitoring service delivery
  • Understand the value of self-assessment and external safeguarding audits
  • Dealing with the Media
  • Communicating Safeguarding commitment and dealing with the Media
  • Ongoing development – Safeguarding Journal/workbook


Who Should Complete Level 5 Safeguarding Training?

Level 5 Safeguarding Training is designed for professionals with strategic responsibility for safeguarding within their organisation. The course is particularly suitable for those who lead safeguarding arrangements, oversee safeguarding governance, develop policies and procedures, or make complex safeguarding decisions.

This advanced level of training equips senior leaders with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills required to manage safeguarding effectively, support organisational compliance and promote a strong culture of safety for children, young people and adults at risk.
