What is Safeguarding Trustee Training?
As a trustee you must make sure your charity fulfils its safeguarding responsibility. Even if you delegate some activities to a safeguarding lead or group, you retain overall responsibility
Safeguarding Trustee Training is a tailored program designed to help trustees understand their essential role within their organisation in protecting children, young people and adults at risk. This training provides a clear understanding of safeguarding practices, including the definitions, categories and signs of abuse, ensuring trustees can recognise and respond effectively to safeguarding concerns.
It also covers the legal and regulatory framework, including the Charity Commission's safeguarding standards, and explores trustees' statutory duties in identifying and managing risks. You’ll gain insight into safeguarding Governance, policies and procedures, such as the role of a Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) and the importance of accurate record-keeping.
By attending this training, trustees will be better equipped to meet their responsibilities, advocate a culture of safety and trust and ensure their organisation is aligned with best practices in safeguarding.
A strong safeguarding culture means:
- you protect people
- you minimise the risks of any harm or abuse
- everyone has confidence their concerns will be dealt with appropriately
- everyone at the charity understands their role
Who is responsible for ensuring that trustees receive appropriate safeguarding training?
Ensuring that trustees receive safeguarding training is the responsibility of the stakeholders. Safeguarding is a collective effort!
Here is a list of who is responsible collectively for ensuring Trustees are trained:
