Safeguarding Champion Course

Our Safeguarding Champions course will give you the knowledge, confidence, and increase organisational safeguarding knowledge, respond appropriately and help build a safer culture where safeguarding is a shared responsibility within all levels of the workforce.

If you or your organisation want to build a safer culture and implement an extra high level of safeguarding knowledge and skills for your team(s) then this course is for you.


What is a Safeguarding Champion?


A Safeguarding Champion is someone who leads by example, raising awareness, promoting and advocating good safeguarding practices and encourages a safer culture where everyone understands their shared responsibility of safeguarding others and those in need of protection.

This role is especially important in creating a safer, supportive environment where safeguarding is more than just a box-ticking exercise; it’s a shared commitment. Where together, you can build a safer future for everyone.

Safeguarding Champions helps to build and review safeguarding policies, offer guidance and support to other staff and volunteers and provides a reassuring presence for those who have concerns or need advice and guidance. Their dedication ensures that wellbeing and safeguarding remain as a golden thread approach through the organisation.



What will you learn on a Safeguarding Champions Training Course?


  • Understand how to implement and review your organisation’s Safeguarding Policy and Procedures both for children and adults.
  • Understand the purpose and importance of the safeguarding champion.
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of the ‘Safeguarding Champion’ and explore what this means for safer working practices.
  • Understand and explore safeguarding champion guidelines within your organisation
  • Explore a strategy and create an action plan to promote safeguarding through all areas of your organisation
  • Understand the need to be active in responding to safeguarding concerns.
  • Understand and commit to a safer culture and a risk management culture.
  • How to support the organisation’s Designated Safeguarding Lead officer  in developing safeguarding audits.
  • Understand the challenges and barriers to effective information sharing with other safeguarding champions within your organisation.
  • Take time for action planning for ownership, embedding a safeguarding champion’s structure and a communications strategy.


What are the Roles and Responsibilities of a Safeguarding Champion?


As a safeguarding champion, you play an essential role in supporting staff and volunteers when safeguarding concerns or allegations arise. You may work alongside the Designated Safeguarding Lead supporting safeguarding practices and internal protocols such as safeguarding audits.

 

1. Advice and Guidance

Share relevant information with staff and volunteers. Providing advice and guidance or on-call support advice and guidance. Act as an extra level of organisational safeguarding support by communicating and responding to safeguarding updates, policy changes etcetera.


2. Managing incidents

Liaison with external statutory services and attend Safeguarding meetings. Manage and/lead safeguarding investigations.


3. Safeguarding Training

Coordinate, manage or deliver Safeguarding Training and Safeguarding Induction training. Manage Annual Safeguarding events.


4. Compliance and audit

Audit and monitor safeguarding incidents or serious incidents, complaints and allegations.  Identify trends and themes. Cascade Best Practice.


5. Recording

Complete safeguarding concern forms and maintain accurate safeguarding records. As well as audit internals safeguarding files or safeguarding reporting software.
