Safeguarding Training for Foster Carers and Kinship Carers

Our Full day Safeguarding training for Foster Carers and Kinship carers will ensure that you are able to recognise, respond and report signs of abuse, neglect, or exploitation in children with complex backgrounds. The key benefits include improved child safety, better understanding of trauma-informed care, increased confidence in managing disclosures, and adherence to legal requirements for record-keeping.

Learning Outcomes

• Changes to Foster carer / kinship carer arrangements and National Minimum standards
•  Develop a clearer awareness of ‘safeguarding, promoting welfare and child protection' as defined in legislation, statutory guidance
• To identify potential signs and indicators of different types of child abuse, neglect and exploitation recognising how to respond to them
• Understand Adverse Childhood Experiences ( ACE’s) and how trauma informed practice can help you support your child / young person 
•  Demonstrate awareness of the vulnerability, risk and resilience children and young people may face in today's world.
• Recognise the principles of 'safer caring' and safe working practice - managing risks and the protection of both children and              carers
•  Child Exploitation- recognising contextual risks outside the home e.g. radicalisation and extremism, 
•   Creating a safe environment e.g. online safety and safety plans and moving from a domestic to a commercial environment
•  Missing children escalation protocols
•  Define best practice in respect of listening, recording and responding to safeguarding issues and concerns
•  Reality of being a foster / kinship carer – controls, permissions and form filling
•  Referring safeguarding concerns to your Local Authority safeguarding team
